Counsellor and psychology services for school aged children are often provided through individual schools, and offer a very good starting point for many children with mental health concerns. These are organised through request to the school that the child attends.
Private paediatric psychology services can be accessed through a Mental Health Care Plan from either a General Practitioner or Paediatrician. This will allow a partial Medicare rebate for 6 sessions, plus an additional 4, per calendar year. Out of pocket fees still apply.
